Be The First

On May 15, 1851, Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald and five of her closest friends founded the Adelphean Society, which later became Alpha Delta Pi, and the first sorority in existence.

Founded in Macon, Georgia, the members selected the official colors of Azure Blue for friendship, white for truth, and the official flower, the Woodland Violet. They also chose their open motto: “We Live for Each Other.” Alpha Delta Pi holds the distinction of being the first secret society for women.

In 1906, the design of the current diamond-shaped badge with two stars and clasped hands was selected, and in 1919, the present crest design, including a lion, was approved at the Grand Convention. The Beta Alpha chapter of Alpha Delta Pi was established at Indiana University in 1926. Nationally, Alpha Delta Pi is ranked in the top ten for the most active members.

In recent years, Beta Alpha has achieved one of the highest GPAs on campus in the Panhellenic and Greek community and won the Panhellenic Chapter of Excellence in 2021. In 2024, at the Officer Academy in Cincinnati, Ohio, Beta Alpha brought home awards in Academic Achievement, Chapter Operations Excellence, Facility Excellence, Finance Excellence, History Reporting Excellence, Membership Experience Excellence, and Panhellenic Excellence. Additionally, we were nominated to receive a Gold Lion Award at Grand Convention, an event that occurs every two years to bring Alpha Delta Pi sisters together from all over the nation to celebrate our sisterhood. The women of Beta Alpha are working diligently to achieve this prestigious award.

Our sisters are passionate about service for others and sisterhood. We are loyal to our education, reaching greater heights. We come together at the Pi Palace, striving to be the best women we can be!

Through knowledge, character, service, and sisterhood, the women of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi truly set a standard of excellence. We are proud to be recognized as a community of women at Indiana University that is dedicated to building friendships that last a lifetime.

Our bond truly spans miles and lifetimes. Through happiness and heartaches, momentous celebrations and every day life we continue to celebrate our sisterhood. Like our open motto states -

We Live For Each Other.
